Harry Potter gathers $61 million on Friday

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1

Harry Potter’s latest adventure has had quite a performance in the weekend – all the fans have rushed to the theaters, paying a little over $61 million to see the (not so) boy sorcerer’s adventures. This amount was gathered in the US and Canada.

The movie has premiered on Thursday in 3700 locations, gathering $24 million with midnight screenings. The Deathly Hallows Part 1 (the first of the two movies based on Potter’s final adventures) is on track to challenge Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight that still holds the record of the best opening (a little over $158 million).

The Harry Potter franchise has had its best opening five years ago, when the title “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” had income of almost $103 million in November 2005. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, the last release of the franchise, has had a $77.8 million opening, gathering a total of $302 million by the end of its theatrical run in the US and Canada. The first part of the Deathly Hallows is expected to make around $400 by the end of its domestic theatrical run.

The Next Three Days, a thriller starring Russell Crowe, has also opened this weekend, but it was not such a huge success: it only had ticket sales of $2.2 million on its opening night, although it was shown on 2700 screens.

Right now, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows is fifth on the list of the all-time best openings, being beaten by Twilight: New Moon, Twilight: Eclipse, The Dark Knight and Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen.

Katie Price has attacked Gillian McKeith's 'lack of team effort' on I'm A Celebrity...

Former I’m A Celebrity star Katie Price has taken a swipe at contestant Gillian McKeith for wimping out during the bushtucker trials, declaring: “At least I gave them a go.”

The glamour model, who was regularly picked by the public vote to endure the unpleasant challenges in last year’s series, criticised the healthy eating guru for her lack of team effort.

The 32-year-old also laid into the current line-up of contestants in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.

Speaking at the launch of her new perfume Precious Love, Price said: “What you’ve got to remember is when you’re in the jungle it’s not about yourself. It’s about team effort. She’s not really doing team effort to me.”

The food expert had to be given oxygen by medics after fainting while locked in a crate on Monday and on Tuesday refused to eat crocodile penis.

Price, who met ex-husband Peter Andre during her first stint in the jungle, also slammed this year’s celebrity line-up for being unexciting, but hailed X Factor star Stacey Solomon as the likely winner.

Meanwhile, McKeith had never watched the programme before going into the jungle as she does not have a television, her daughter has revealed.

The 51-year-old food expert’s daughter Skylar McKeith-Magaziner, 16, admitted she had only seen clips of the show before and did not think to warn her mother about the challenges she was likely to face in Australia.

This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby asked her: “So, you didn’t really know when she said ‘there’s this show, should I do it?’ to say ‘Oh mum, you’re not very good with bugs, you’re a vegan, you won’t be able to eat anything’?”

Describing McKeith as a “really loving mum”, the teenager added: “I think she’s doing great. She’s conquering all her fears and I’m really proud of her for doing this. I couldn’t do it.”
