 | Al Jolson (May 26,1886 Oct.23,1950), born in Lithuania, Russian Empire, was a highly acclaimed American singer, comedian, and actor, and the first openly Jewish man to become an entertainment star in America. His career lasted from 1911 until his death in 1950, during which time he was commonly dubbed "the world's greatest entertainer. Numerous well-known singers were influenced by his music, including Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Judy Garland. By 1920, he was Americas most famous and highest paid entertainer. Between 1911 and 1928, Jolson had nine sell-out Winter Garden shows in a row, more than 80 hit records, and 16 national and international tours. ------ "Swanee" is an American popular song written in 1919 by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Irving Caesar. It is most often associated with singer Al Jolson. The song was written for a New York City revue called Demi-Tasse, which opened in October 1919 in the Capitol Theater. Caesar and Gershwin, who was then aged 20, claimed to have written the song in about ten minutes riding on a bus in Manhattan, and then at Gershwin's apartment. It was written partly as a parody of Stephen Foster's "Old Folks at Home". It was originally used as a big production number, with 60 chorus girls dancing with electric lights in their slippers on an otherwise darkened stage. Frum Compares Maddow To McCain's Hecklers

Basically, Frum objected to Maddow's injection of humor and sarcasm into her show as an example of how political culture was circling the drain. Maddow, obviously, had some disagreement with this contention, suggesting that her use of comic effect was not in any way equivalent to say...calling for someone's head on the campaign trail. Of course, Frum seems to have a problem with political comedy in general. Back in July, he took to his "Diary" to caterwaul over the way Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert treat the conversation: Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert obviously see themselves as something more than ordinary funny men. Recall Stewart's memorable scolding of Crossfire for hurting America; remember Stephen Colbert's preachy appearance at the White House correspondents dinner. Central Bucks East Teacher Suspended for Blog Post
 | A teacher in the Central Bucks School District has been suspended for comments she made about some of her students in her blog. Central Bucks East English teacher Natalie Munroe shared a lot of profound information on her blog, including her favorite Food Network stars and some restaurants she thinks are overrated. And according to a KYW report, Munroe also wrote about her students, though not by name, with a bit of profanity sprinkled on top. In one post from January 2010, Munroe reportedly wrote about the report comments she wish she could make to students' parents. Such as... Brooke Wilberger body found
 | Brooke was abducted five years ago Joel Courtney agreed to the plea bargain that would put him in prison for the rest of his life for killing Brooke Wilberger but spare him from the death penalty because it included a provision to allow him to serve out his sentence near his family, an attorney for Courtney said Tuesday. The bargain also included revealing the location of 19-year-old Wilbergers remains who Courtney admitted to raping and killing over 5 years ago. Steven Gorham said Courtney wanted to serve his life sentence in New Mexico, not Oregon, because he wanted to be near his wife and three children. I think theyre as much as any family is together, said Gorham. When someone is in prison, theyre together even though he raped and murdered someone. He said the plea bargain was much more to do with Courtneys assurance - in writing that he would stay in New Mexico rather than his desire to avoid the death penalty. Gorham said he does not believe there are other victims and that Courtney is not a serial killer as some law enforcement has speculated. Gorham said the district attorney offered some sort of immunity if Courtney would come clean with other victims, but he said there werent any. On Tuesday Gorham also gave a few more details about Courtneys abduction of Wilberger and his time with her. He said Courtney bound Wilberger in the back of his green minivan at a McDonalds in Philomath after abducting Wilberger at her apartment complex in Corvallis.
