Blue Bloods - Weekend TV Premier

Weekend TV premieres include new show 'Blue Bloods' and old favorite 'Dexter'

On Showtime's 'Dexter,' the vigilante serial killer, seen here with son Harrison, deals with the murder of his wife Rita on Sunday's season five premiere.

Premiere week comes to a close this weekend with a Friday night schedule but tough decisions for viewers on Sunday. Only one new show premieres tonight amid a competition between CBS, Fox and CW during the 8 and 9 p.m. time slots.

"Blue Bloods" makes it debut at 10 p.m. on CBS starring Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan and Donnie Wahlberg in a show that mixes family drama with crime-solving police work. Selleck is the man in charge at the NYPD and head of a law enforcement family that includes a detective, prosecutor and rookie cop.

Also beginning tonight on CBS are "Medium" at 8 p.m. and CSI: NY at 9 p.m. Those shows go up against the CW's "Smallville" and "Supernatural" and Fox's "Human Target" and "The Good Guys."

On Sunday, Showtime powerhouse "Dexter" premieres for its fifth season as the beloved serial killer/forensic scientist reacts to the season-ending murder of his wife Rita at the hands of the Trinity Killer.

Dexter also tries to escape mounting suspicion from members of his own department while struggling to handle stepchildren Cody and Astor.

"Dexter" premieres at a new 9 p.m. time slot against HBO's critically-acclaimed drama 'Boardwalk Empire'
